We're back from S.C., a weeklong stay at Edisto. I'm sure both my readers are happy I'm back and blogging again. I just wish we could've stayed longer (about 50 years).
The vacation was relaxing, Sean and I went to Charleston one day to play disc golf while Robyn relaxed, and on Saturday Robyn and I went down to Botany Bay WMA (formerly Plantation) while Sean took it easy. Loads of Pictures from Botany up in a sub-gallery of the Vacation.
I didn't get a chance to work on the CarPC as much as I wanted. Actually, I chose not to, forgetting to carry a LAN cable with us severely limited my connectivity! I received my Visteon HD300 radio a day or so before we left for the beach, so I took everything along with us to the beach to play with just in case of rain. It didn't rain much, but I did break it out for a day or so, "just 'cause". I managed to hit a wireless Access point for about an hour when I first brought up the PC, but that didn't last and I really didn't feel the overwhelming desire to "sneakernet" the files I needed from Mom's computer. It would've been nice to get the nGhost stuff set up, but I'll work on that soon. As soon as I do that and get me an amplifier to drive the speakers, I can actually install it in the Sylvia!
Of course, things go wrong when you're away... Leaving two of the kids at home while we were gone for a week wasn't the ideal situation, but it was unavoidable. As I had expected (dreaded), we got home and there were situations needing our immediate attention...
One of the dogs opened the back door and as a result there were cats loose... We could immediately hear Meowing from under the front porch when we got out of the van... Sylvester was one of the escapees and has taken up residence under the front porch. Minnie came right out the hole when we got home, but Sylvester is so skittish we may never get him back inside. Honey came back a few days later, no telling where he'd been off to. After cajoling and beseeching in attempts to get the felines to come out from under the porch, I took the drastic measure of removing steps from the front porch to try to coax them out.... The boards were starting to look suspect anyways, I was going to replace them before Winter as it was. Finally, after about two hours, I gave up and started unpacking the van. Upon entering the upstairs bedroom, I noticed the plexiglass window in front of the projector had been pushed in. When I went in the closet to fix it, lo and behold! Blaze! Meowing like crazy when she saw me! She apparently pushed in the window trying to get a a bug or something. It's easy to get to from the main room; the headboard of the bed is right underneath it. Of course, it's impossible to get back out that way from inside the closet; the plexiglass leaning in makes it effectively one-way! So, Blaze spent a few days locked in the closet with no food or water... And the first thing she did once no-one was watching her was relieve herself in the corner of the waterbed, instead of using the litterbox which was less than ten feet away. Just one more thing to do before trying to get a good night's sleep, re-make the bed!
Of course, the grass needs mowing again, the pool needs cleaning, the whole house needs cleaning... Welcome home, huh?
